A person entering the employ of a licensee to perform the functions of a security guard or a security patrolperson shall complete a course in the exercise of the power to arrest prior to being assigned to a duty location. A course provider shall issue a certificate to a security guard upon satisfactory completion of a required course, conducted in accordance with the department’s requirements. The course of training in the exercise of the power to arrest may be administered, tested, and certified by any licensee or by any organization or school approved by the department. Each applicant must be obtain a valid guard card by successfully completing the powers to arrest course, and submit to BSIS an application with appropriate fees, successfully pass a DOJ and FBI background clearance. BSIS approvals are generally issued in approximately 4 weeks.
